Tigers on a Roll!

Ms. Dianna for keeping things running smoothly and being the positive "face" of UTE!
Christie Tackett for keeping her students actively engaged at all times.  Playing spoons with types of sentences, having students already making foldables in social studies and working with maps.
Nancy Withrow for getting all students entered into STAR and AR so quickly, even when she is busy dealing with a crisis at one of her other schools.
Jackie Hargett and Marta Scott  for taking care of all the details to get every classroom ready for DIBELS and DEA this week!
Peggy Young for already having her word wall started by posting 5 or 6 words as they have reviewed them from K learning.
Karen Tomolonis for making sure her students understand the value of a digit within a number and ALWAYS having engaging math lessons!
Sandra Brown for including movement in science by leading 3rd and 4th grades in the Scientific Method Rap!
Lynsey Varney for working with other teachers in the district on curriculum maps, which are coming soon!
Jeanie Clary and Michelle Underwood for being problem solvers, not complainers, when a problem arose with K breakfast in the classroom!  They came with a possible solution in mind, and it has worked!
Leigh Williams and Angela Kimbler for also being problem solvers and jumping into action when our original early duty plan did not work!
I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW WONDERFUL IT IS TO KNOW WE ARE A TEAM AND CAN COUNT ON ONE ANOTHER WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

  1. I agree we are still on roll. I think the article on restraint was interesting. We do not have to do that a lot here, but we have had to a few times. For those who don't know Marta has been trained. I am glad everyone doesn't have to have the full restraint training, they say it is rough (ask Marta). I know positive behavior reinforcement helps but I believe there are times when you feel you can not be positve anymore with a child and need to be a little stern. Maybe the webinar or whatever the PD ends up being will give some refreshing ideas.

  2. Thanks for the calendar reminders. We tend to get so busy, that sometimes we need a quick reminder.
I really, really got excited about the articles that had the graphic organizers. I plan on using the ones on the Smart Exchange as often as I can. The article on word walls had some great ideas that I could use during word work. I think I will let my children make their own individual “Word Wall Bingo” I am glad we can go back to the blog as a resource. I also wanted to share a good website for the Fry Words: http://www.uniqueteachingresources.com/Fry-1000-Instant-Words.html . This resource will give you the Fry list, a check off sheet and flashcards (color coded if you want) and activities you can do with them. While I am sharing, I also want to share one more thing. Did you know that you can get to your “My Documents” from your home computer? I asked Steve if it was possible to do this and he showed me how. If anyone would like to know how just let me know.

  4. Things seem to be going very well I agree. I am concerned about this restraint training in the future. I see that it is necessary. Several years ago I had students that I may have needed this with. I was glad to see graphic organizers appropriate for kindergarten. It is just soooooo slow going with us in the beginning.

  5. I think this blog is important for me in several ways - first, the information, links, and "things to ponder" from Mrs. Justice is helpful as well as beneficial to me weekly. I tend to forget things I need to do and most importantly I sometimes lose focus of just why I am in the business of educating kids. Shawn's information and her thoughts pull it all back together for me as a good leader's words should. Second, I cannot say it enough how valuable the words and advice are to me from my fellow teachers here at UT. I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts and comments as I reflect on my own. Keep it up UT!

  6. I am excited that we will be using Reading A-Z. I have went through my e-mials to find my password but was unsuccessful. So I will be searching this out! I use graphic organizers with many of my Media Lessons and think that this site will be a very valuable resource. I appreciate the calendar reminders because sometimes it can get a little overwhelming being at three schools.

  7. Love the Calendar reminders!! My phone and Ipad store those automatically, I then set a reminder alert, makes my life easier. I also really like reading other's comments on the blog. I tested Hargetts Fry Website and printed my word cards from there. I also tried accessing my documents from home but had some trouble opening the documents once I found them (I'll try again).

I like that each grade is going to be responsible for two Graphic Organizers and I think we will be able to see the benefit of this in the years to come. Smart Exchange Graphic Organizers allows you to save your partial Organizers for later use which is great and I don't have to worry about getting my board erased.

Life is great, Rainbows and Sunshine.....that what my grade mate says.

  8. Shout out to Jackie Hargett, thanks for the link it saved much time with pre made word cards, wonderful! Schedules are still being balanced but they are starting to smooth out, please don't change anytime soon! Lynsey, thanks for your patience, once I figure out what I am doing ,I will try to be more helpful in science, right now I will keep throwing lesson plans at you. Marta, you amaze me with the poise and grace which you handle everything! Lunch ladies keep feeding us, after seeing pics on Facebook, so thankful I am here! Christy well, you know how much you mean to me. Fancy, you are simply Fancy! Shawn, love seeing an administrator so involved, even if someone is keeping track, I know you would do it anyway! Love my school, staff, and students. It is a honor to include myself as a Tiger!

  10. We've had another great week! I feel much more prepared this year as well. Marta has been through the restraint training so I'm happy to know she is close by if needed. She says that it is only to be used if the child is at risk to himself or others.

  12. I do like the calendar reminders. It helps me to stay on top of important things since I don't hhave or use a personal calendar. Although we are still experiencing alot of change I feel as though we have gotten off to a good start. I am excited about trying some of the new ideas that have been shared. I have already accessed the a-z reading website and want to thank you for purchasing a membership for us. This is something I will really use. Mrs. Zeigler and I have already used some of the graphic organizers with our advanced students.

  13. Well, I survived the first week of preschool! All I can say at the end of today is, I'm glad Mrs. Justice can kick her shoes off and run!! The article on restraint was very interesting for me especially after this week. I haven't looked at the word wall site yet, but I will be checking it out. I really enjoy our blog, the positive things on it, and the responses from everyone. It is nice to work where everyone works as a team!
