Star Strategies: Learning Targets
- Reviewing target throughout the lesson.
- Posting targets at centers.
- Allowing students to interact with target when first introduced through vocabulary.
- Student self assessment based on target at the end of unit or lesson.
- Highlighting or drawing and arrow to the appropriate lesson target during the lesson, if multiple targets are posted together.
Are you doing all of the above? If you simply have mulitple targets posted and do not draw attention in some way to the current lesson's target, how can students determine on which one you are working?

Justice Thoughts:
I am amazed at the improvement we made across all grade levels on DEA. We still have room for improvement, but there is definite evidence that the hard work we have put in and the changes we have made this year have had a positive impact on the academic achievement of our students. I am confident that we are doing everything within our skill and knowledge that we can for our students here at UTE. Keep up the good work and know that the time, effort, and love each of you put toward our goal of helping students succeed does not go unnoticed.Food For Thought:
"Our comfort zones can be the greatest enemy to our potential."~David Cottrell
What have you done this year that is outside of your comfort zone? What effect did it have on you and your students?

Doing centers everyday has definitely put m e outside my comfort zone. In the past, I have set out centers on Friday or maybe a few centers to review a particular concept. I feel as though I am doing better with centers. I believe that by exposing my students to daily centers they have been forced to take more responsibility for their learning, which hopefully will help them to be more prepared next year.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a lot of things that have pushed us all past our comfort zones this year. Centers, classroom libraries, presenting to the district, etc. These things have proved to be good but the stress level of teachers this year have been awful. Too much of a good thing at once can be a bad thing. I think we have not been alowed to take a deep breathe this year, we haven't had time!
ReplyDeleteCenters have been a challenge but, I can see the benefits and where I need to go with it next year. I do post the targets and incorporate them into the lesson as best I can. I often feel overwhelmed with everything I need to get accomplished.
ReplyDeleteI have my learning targets posted and refer to them as often as I can during a lesson. I have also tried to incorporate the students stating what the learning targets mean to them, in their own words. I see a lot of good things happening at UTES. Pushing teachers paste our comfort zones is the only way for new learning to happen. Teachers just like kids get stuck in the same old routine and often have a hard time readjusting to anything new. Change is good, it keeps us alert and on our toes!
ReplyDeleteI have my learning targets posted and I do refer to them often. I see exciting progress and gains happening with RTI. Like Michelle, this has been an exhausting year teeming with growth and kindled with emotions. This first year has been challenging because of complete changes and lack of materials needed for all the small groups. New habits are now in place and everything is running smoothly. The burden of moving us swiftly through this journey has been Shawn. She had done an outstanding job but has suffered with her health.
ReplyDeleteI feel I have really been out of my comfort zone this year. Having said that, I feel like I have learned so much. I have more confidence in myself, seeing things that I could do that I never thought I could do. I believe that if we all stay in our comfort zone, we will not grow professionally. The more we grow professionally, the more are children will gain.
