Are we on the right track?

We have planned our work (CSIP), but now are we working our plan?  Each month we will look over a component from our CSIP and determine where we are in the process of implementation of the strategies and activities.  This month, we will be looking at the Math component.  Please take time sometime by January 30th to look at our math component strategies, reply to this blog with your thoughts and comments about where we are with specific strategies.  Make sure that if there is any strategy that you feel is not working at this time or we are not implementing, you express that in your blog.  We will compile your notes and use it for our I&I checks.  You can find our CSIP at the attached link.http://www.edline.net/files/_YJJaB_/6d722806f18c6a693745a49013852ec4/1112UTECSIP1116.pdf
You also have a hard copy I gave you in November.  I value your insight into our work.  Our students are better for it!

  1. We feel we are headed in the right direction! We are currently implementing the strategies and activities listed in the CSIP. We feel that our effective use of DEA data to meet specific deficits in progress for each student is very important to reach our goals. RTI and Tier Monitoring on specific students will prohibit gaps.

  2. I too feel we are headed in the right direction. As I am in and out of classrooms, I observe our teachers implementing the math portion of our CSIP. I think we have moved in the right direction to close the gaps in math through RIT groups and analysis of DEA data. The district is backing up our work with the implemention of the Math Academy. Hopefully the Math Academy will expand on the strategies and activities listed on the CSIP. We are aware of the problems we are having with our new math series and with that awareness in mind we can close the gaps that exist there.

  3. We feel that we are headed in the right direction. Using DEA data we have began grouping our students for small groups across the grade level to work in stations during math. We are using both teachers and our aid to help guide instruction at three stations providing students more one on one help. We also think that the Math Academy will help provide us more strategies to use during math instruction. Jason and Keri.

  4. As a fourth grade team we are complying to our Math CSIP by:
    q Participating in PLC/TLC meetings
q Small RTI groups Monday-Thursday----These small groups have shown improvements on the DEA and through daily formative assessments.
q Weekly Math Do What? In the area of Math
q Small center based Math instruction---Students working in these small groups appear more comfortable with small group instruction and participation.

We have found significant gaps in our new math series, Math In Focus, according to KCAS. We have addressed these gaps through small group instruction and the use of our new Cross Curriculum Coach booklets.

  5. I feel that with everything we've been doing in math we are headed in the right direction. We are implementing our RTI services daily for 30 minutes. Which I feel is working out well for the students. We are continuing to do our "DO Whats" in math. We use the Smart board as much as we can to to provide instruction for the skills we are working on.

  6. I believe we are definitely on track. We are focusing our instruction on the needs of the students by analyzing not only DEA but other assessments as well. The small (as possible) RTI groups are also a great benefit for our students. With the use of hands on manipulative based activities, it allows the students to grow from concrete to pictorial to abstract. I believe this has been the missing link. I know they are many gaps in the new math series. I feel we are doing everything possible to eliminate these gaps. By using the strategies that we have incorporated in our CSIP, I believe we will make great gains in closing these gaps. I do believe that our children starting in kindergarten will have significant benefits by starting the new math series, and all the strategies that we have incorporated. I am very confident that these gaps will decrease. What a great time to be a student at Upper Tygart Elementary!

  7. I see daily that the strategies we have planned in the CSIP are being utilized. I do believe this is best for our students. With the skill and expertise of you the teachers and the instructional aides, our students do not have one wasted minute. I am seeing more and more student use of smartboards for games in both math and reading. I think we are well on our way to our goal of 87% Proficient and Distinguished in math, but our vision is whatever it takes.... Every Child...Every Day!!! Keep up the fabulous work.

  9. We are definitely moving in the right direction at UTE. Activities that are planned in the CSIP are evidenced daily in the classrooms. Our students are becoming more proficient in their abilities to utilize new information and problem solve. The new math series does have its quirks but just like any new program it takes time to see the benefits.

  10. I believe we are on the right track by looking at all the data on our students and using that information to form RTI groups. Third grade as started using centers in both reading and math. We formed these groups by looking at student data and the individual needs of our students.

  11. I feel we are definitely moving in the right direction. As an observer, since I am not in the classrooms, I feel that the implementations that we are making are making and will continue to make a difference. We have an amazing group of professional here, that have a clear focus on getting all students to their top potential!

  12. I feel we are moving in the right direction. We are using “Do Whats?” across the curriculum and analyzing data frequently to keep groups properly differentiated. Third grade is also basing all instruction on our new coach books.

  13. I am not at the school to see what is going on, but I can tell just from listening to eveyone talk at our meetings, that everyone is working hard to meet our CSIP goals. I think the RTI and small group interventions will make a noticeable difference in student performance, not only now but in years to come.

  14. I believe we are headed in a great direction. We are constantly looking at data to decide what is best for students. We are moving students among groups to better accomodate the needs seen with our test results. Hopefully our students are meeting their full potential.
